Reduced pork prices may increase the popularity of bacon

That’s the idea, anyway, behind the Hypocrite Burger—a veggie patty topped by two strips of bacon. Wiederhorn, chief executive officer of Beverly Hills, California-based Fatburger Corp., is pushing sales of the sandwich in his 200 fast-food restaurants to take advantage of wholesale prices that dropped about two-thirds from a year ago.

Here’s a number you probably thought you’d never see: The global organic food and beverage industry grew to more than $100 billion last year. Forecasts call for the industry to grow at a 12.8 percent annual rate.  The U.S. accounts for almost half of those sales.

Become a Leader in the Pizza Revolution

When we drive around the country – and believe me, we get around – we see a pizza revolution. There’s a changing of the guard that has brought more pizza and pizza-like offerings to more people than ever before.

The rising dough (and we’re talking not only money, but regular and gluten-free crusts) is led by the Quick Service Restaurants (QSR) with their customizable pizza places. But new pizza spots are springing up in neighborhood strip malls, gas stations and convenience stores that populate every corner of the country. (more…)

Baseball & Pizza: Playing “Pepper-oni”

One of the fun things about going to baseball games is eating the food.  There’s nothing like a ballpark hot dog, greasy fries or nachos, and the old favorites: peanuts and Cracker Jacks®.

Unfortunately, the pizza at the park is generally a strike out; with a slice in a box that seems to contain a reheated pizza, not even made on the premises. The vendors often are handing out pies that are jostled, cold and oily, not the most appetizing way to serve our favorite menu item.  (more…)
