USDA Lowers Pork Outlook Forecast

As illustrated a few weeks ago, the June USDA Hog and Pigs Report raised concerns about the pending hog supply due to PEDv.  Those concerns were heightened last Friday with the USDA’s latest pork production projections.  porkAs readers will note in the chart at left, pork output declines compared to previous years are expected to intensify this quarter and next.  Further, pork production is not expected to begin to recover until the summer of 2015.  The upside price risk in pork could remain noteworthy for the foreseeable future, perhaps beyond next summer, since the impact of PEDv remains ambiguous.  Hang in there pork buyers.
